Doja Cat continues to disappoint her fans. This year, the Grammy Award winner admitted on Twitter that her hit albums, Planet Her and Hot Pink, were just "cash-grabs." "planet her and hot pink were cash-grabs and yall fell for it," she wrote in May. "now i can go disappear somewhere and touch grass with my loved ones on an island while yall weep for mediocre pop." Luckily for the "Get Into It" singer, most of her fans disregarded her comment and continued to support her.

Now it seems she's really angered her followers. Recently, a fan on Threads kindly told the "Say So" singer, "I wanna hear you say (I do love you guys) As usual to your fans." Doja Cat responded with, "i don't though cuz i don't even know yall."

The discussion continued with another Threads user (@dailytaylortea13) saying, "and we don't know you. but we have supported you through thick and thin. mind you you'd be NOTHING without us. you'd be working at a grocery store making songs on f*cking garage band miss high school drop out..."

"nobody forced you idk why you're talking to me like you're my mother b*tch you sound like a crazy person," wrote Doja Cat. Needless to say, many of her admirers were not pleased, and some have even requested refunds for their concert tickets.

A long-time fan of Doja Cat took to Twitter to share their thoughts on the rapper's disheartening comments. @FreakLikeBruno writes about how they stood by her despite all the times she faced backlash. "Some of us have been here since 2018, and perhaps even earlier, to watch you develop as a performer and artist and become the celebrity you are now," @FreakLikeBruno says. "We've stood with you every incident you've faced, including the one involving Lorry Hilly, Noah Schnapp, the Heard v. Depp trial tiktok, the Paraguay crisis, and the dispute over #that song."

They continue, "We tolerated all that occurred up until recently while protecting, defending, and supporting you. We purchased your music, tour tickets, and merch because we enjoyed it. Because it is ultimately YOUR personal life and decision, we choose to remain silent during your previous romantic partners." The Twitter user also adds how her fans have defended her against the racist accusations she faced in 2020, and how they didn't immediately condemn her for her budding romance with artist J Cyrus, who is an alleged "cheater, predator, abuser, and racist."

"Our recommendation is to accept responsibility and stand up while holding yourself accountable," the fan adds. "I'd say we (as in your fans because we apparently kittens/z is corny and whack to you now) love you but I don't know if you deserve that right now."

Doja Cat reportedly deactivated her Threads account following the backlash, and some of her biggest fan pages on social media platforms have done the same.

Doja Cat's insensitive admission of not loving her fans sent the internet into a frenzy for obvious reasons: Her fans feel betrayed, hurt, and unappreciated because they're the backbone of her fame. They invested their time, energy, and resources to support her journey, attending concerts, buying merchandise, and standing up for her despite her problematic history. Without them, she wouldn't be where she is now.

But amidst this uproar, her honesty also exposed the toxic side of celebrity-fan relationships. Fans often create an idealized image of their idols in these parasocial relationships, often projecting star qualities onto them that usually don't align with reality. They admire the carefully crafted public persona, the artistry, and the music, but rarely see the complete picture of the person behind the stage. At the beginning of her career, Doja Cat was incredibly likable to many. Yet in the past few years, she's shown us her true colors, lack of empathy, and compassion for those who helped propel her to stardom.
