Be honest – how many times have you returned an overhyped item that TikTok influenced you to buy? I've returned quite a few skincare products that caused breakouts, as well as primers that left me with a patchy finish instead of the smooth, blurred look I was hoping for.

As it turns out, you can return too many products (which makes sense) and get banned from Sephora. Jennie, an ex-Sephora manager and beauty influencer on TikTok with over 200,000 followers, reveals the limit to the amount of product you can return. The limit may seem high at first, but it really isn't that hard to reach when you think about how expensive Sephora is.

What’s the Return Limit at Sephora?

"So I worked at Sephora, and I was a manager there, and I left last March. So the policy as of last March is if you return more than $2,500 worth of product in the last calendar year, you will get banned," Jennie tells her audience. "If you try returning over that, a little ticket's going to print out when you try to do it. It'll say that it was denied, and you can call customer service to inquire why. When you call that number, they'll be like, 'Girl, you're done.'"

However, there is a way to bypass this. She continues, "You're done because you returned too much. It's a very simple workaround. Honestly, you can literally just set up another account with another email and another phone number and continue to purchase and return under that account. But every return, if it's touched or damaged or the seal is broken, the item gets destroyed. No, it doesn't get donated just for safety purposes."

"Sometimes, it gets turned into a tester," Jennie explains. "For example, if you return a fragrance and the tester of the fragrance on the floor is already empty, we'll switch out the bottles and put the returned bottle as a tester because things like fragrances are very easily able to be sanitized."

Meanwhile, makeup is "never, never, never turned into a tester" because it is incredibly unsanitary. "But just be responsible with how you're purchasing and how you're returning because all of that stuff goes into hazmat, and all of that gets destroyed," she adds. "Nothing gets donated."

Jennie urges all of us to be mindful when shopping at Sephora. "Just be mindful because you can definitely get banned," she says. Oh, and if you're wondering about Ulta, there are no maximum returns. "Now, I was also a manager at Ulta. There is no maximum at Ulta, to no one's surprise. Ulta just overall has a better return policy versus Sephora."

So, yeah, make sure to read up on reviews before you purchase something from Sephora! Jennie concludes, "But yeah, just be careful with how much you're returning because getting banned... it's a little embarrassing."
