Soccer legend Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the most recognizable athletes to have ever walked the face of the earth, and he currently boasts the most followers out of all the celebrities on Instagram.
But even the top elite athletes aren't immune from tragedy. Ronaldo and his wife of five years, Georgina Rodriguez, announced today that their baby boy died during birth, but his twin sister survived.

There is no pain worse than losing a child, a fact that Ronaldo and Rodriguez know all too well. The parents announced they were expecting twins about six months ago. They already have a daughter together who was born in 2017, and Ronaldo has three other children.
Ronaldo and Rodriguez shared the same message on their Instagram today, sharing the news that one of their twins passed away during birth.
"It is with our deepest sadness we have to announce that our baby boy has passed away," they wrote. "It is the greatest pain that any parents can feel. Only the birth of our baby girl gives us the strength to live this moment with some hope and happiness."
The couple thanked the doctors and nurses "for all their expert care and support" throughout the birthing process.
"We are all devastated at this loss and we kindly ask for privacy at this very difficult time," they wrote. "Our baby boy, you are our angel. We will always love you."
They haven't shared any other details as of yet. Many athletes, celebrities, and fans are sending their condolences to Ronaldo, Rodriguez, and their family.
