Matthew McConaughey and his wife Camila Alves are one of the few couples who left behind the LA grind to set their family up somewhere quieter. They relocated to Austin, Texas with their three children: Levi, 13, Vida, 12, and Livingston, 9. Camila recently opened up about how happy their family has been since they made the South their home.

Camila Alves McConaughey Says Texas "Embodies Our Belief System"

Matthew McConaughey, 52, was born in Uvalde, Texas, so he's accustomed to the lifestyle his family now has. Camila, 40, is from Brazil, but she says there's a lot of similarity between Texas culture and how she grew up. Her family is happier than ever living in Austin.

"It’s been great," Camila told Fox News Digital. "It really embodies our belief system, especially the ones I grew up with, like going to church every Sunday, saying ‘yes ma’am’ or ‘no, sir.’ I grew up saying those things coming from a family of farmers."

"For me, being from Brazil and then coming to Texas, I discovered a lot of similarities in terms of what families practice here, especially going to church on Sundays, and being very into the outdoors. It’s been a great transition," she shared.

Camila said that they lived in Malibu for a long time and had "paparazzi outside our door every day – every single day." It was no way to live. "When that becomes your normal, you don’t realize how much that’s actually affecting the things you do until you actually leave and get out of it," she continued. "The kids get to have a private way of growing up. So from that perspective, it was very important."

The McConaughey family has even embraced intergenerational living. Matthew's mother has moved in with them, and Camila says "she gives a completely different perspective" and "brings so much joy to our household."

Camila recently released a new children's book called Just Try One Bite.

"It’s not about restriction, it’s about having a healthy relationship with food and learning about where it comes from," she said. "I want [my family] to feel empowered and make better choices for themselves."
