Cameron Diaz Is Loving Her Newest Role: As A Mom

Cameron Diaz has never failed to embrace her roles with charm and verve. We loved her as Amanda in “The Holiday,” as Natalie in “Charlie’s Angels,” and as the voice of Fiona in “Shrek.” Now, the 47-year-old actress, writer, and model has jumped into a new role: motherhood.

Cameron and her husband, Benji Madden, welcomed their daughter, Raddix, into the world this past December. On January 3, the new momma posted a sweet “Happy New Year” note and birth announcement on Instagram. Diaz wrote that she and her husband, Benji Madden, wish to protect their little one’s privacy and will refrain from sharing photos, but that she is “really really cute” and — as her name suggests — “rad.”

Recently, Cam, who keeps her own life fairly private, opened up about motherhood to Who What Wear CEO Katherine Power (a close friend of Diaz) during a chat on Instagram live. She gushed that Raddix, now almost four months old, is the highlight of her life. “It’s the best, best, best part of my life,” she said, adding that she is thrilled to be on this new journey with Benji.

Cam went on to say that her life has not undergone many changes since the coronavirus pandemic has forced most Americans to self-isolate. Quiet, slow days at home have been the norm for the new mom for the past several months. “I’ve kinda been living a quarantine life anyhow,” she stated. She has certainly welcomed this time, despite the craziness and uncertainty of the world. “I love being in the womb of my home with my husband and cooking,” she told Katherine. The biggest difference for her is the inability to gather with friends. Luckily for her, her new gal pal lives with her!

Cameron didn’t just love on her little on during the chat. She also praised her husband who has been “such an amazing father.” Benji takes over for Cam during the day so she can cook with ease (and a glass of red wine) or enjoy some downtime watching a show on TV. Diaz and Madden married in 2015 and have been leading a happy, quiet life (mostly out of the public eye) ever since. The Good Charlotte guitarist did take to Instagram in late February to express his love and gratitude for Cam and Raddix. “Every day I feel so lucky,” he wrote.

Diaz, who retired from acting after her appearance in the 2014 film Annie, dropped some hints about her future plans. “I like creating,” she said, mentioning that she has “some things brewing” but that it’s still too early to fully discuss them. Her main focus right now is staying in the present. “I stay in the here and now,” she said in regards to her methods of coping with life during a global pandemic. She is living in her own little bubble with Benji and Raddix, and helping that new life to flourish is more important than chasing the fame of her past years.

Closing Thoughts

It’s so refreshing to see such a talented star willingly step out of the limelight in order to pursue family life. While it could be so tempting to continue running after high-paying leading roles, remaining firmly in the intoxication of a highly praised and public life, Cameron Diaz has instead shown the beauty of choosing the other path. She was absolutely radiant during her chat with Katherine Power, and it wasn’t just her brilliant blonde hair or the red lipstick that she rocked. Motherhood has quite clearly been an incredible source of joy for her, and, though we miss seeing her on the big screen, we really love Cam in this new role!
