On May 29, the UK's Department of Health and Social Care announced they are placing an "emergency ban" on puberty-suppressing hormones for kids under 18.

However, the ban on prescribing puberty blockers to still-developing children is temporary. The new regulation, which will apply to England, Wales, and Scotland, will only last from June 3, 2024, to September 3, 2024.

"During this period no new patients under 18 will be prescribed these medicines for the purposes of puberty suppression in those experiencing gender dysphoria or incongruence under the care of these prescribers," the UK's government website reads, adding that the NHS stopped the routine puberty-blocking prescription to kids following the Cass Review into gender identity services.

The 388-page Cass Report, published by former President of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health, Dr. Hilary Cass, revealed that for the vast majority of young people under the age of 25, "a medical pathway will not be the best way to manage their gender-related distress.” The Cass Report finds that there is no way for a clinician to accurately determine who will continue to identify as trans for life and who won’t, and the purpose of using potentially harmful puberty blockers in the first place “remains unclear."

In addition, the UK government's ban will apply to "gonadotropin-releasing hormone analogues – medicines that consist of, or contain, buserelin, gonadorelin, goserelin, leuprorelin acetate, nafarelin or triptorelin."

"This action has been taken to address risks to patient safety," they added.

According to the American College of Pediatricians, it was found that between 80% and 95% of children with gender dysphoria outgrew their trans phase and accepted their biological sex by late adolescence. Given the rise of people experiencing regret and health issues from transitioning, is it possible that the U.S. will soon follow suit and ban puberty blockers for minors?
