Vaughan was the founder of Learn the Risk, a non-profit organization she founded in response to one of the nation’s first mandatory vaccination for education law — SB277 in California. Her history as a former sales representative for Merck (2001-2004), selling Vioxx (a painkiller that was found to double the risk of stroke and heart attacks), as well as her experience living in Europe for eight years, led to the realization that the American pharmaceutical industry doesn’t care about health, just about making money. Vaughan believed that selling drugs and vaccines was how Big Pharma kept people sick and kept making money.
