Brandon Sklenar Defends Blake Lively And Colleen Hoover Over "It Ends With Us" Controversy
As rumors and criticism surround "It Ends With Us," actor Brandon Sklenar has stepped forward to defend his co-star Blake Lively, Colleen Hoover, and the other women involved in the project.

The movie, based on Colleen Hoover’s bestselling 2016 novel, tackles the difficult subject of domestic abuse and has been under scrutiny even before its release, with speculation about on-set tensions and marketing controversies.
Blake Lively, who portrays the lead character Lily Bloom, has faced a barrage of online criticism, much of it directed at her role in the adaptation and her perceived involvement in any behind-the-scenes conflicts. Speculation about her relationship with Justin Baldoni, who serves as both her co-star and the film’s director, has fueled rumors that she was dissatisfied with the production. Critics have questioned her commitment to the project and even her suitability for the role.
By contrast, Justin Baldoni’s reception has been more mixed but notably less vitriolic. While he, too, has been the subject of rumors, particularly regarding his role as both director and actor, the focus has largely been on his professional choices rather than personal attacks. Critics have debated his handling of the film’s sensitive subject matter and questioned his dual role.
In an Instagram post on August 20, Sklenar addressed the rumors. Without delving into specifics, Sklenar emphasized that the focus should remain on the film’s powerful message rather than the alleged drama behind the scenes.
"Colleen and the women of this cast stand for hope, perseverance, and for women choosing a better life for themselves," Sklenar wrote. "Vilifying the women who put so much of their heart and soul into making this film because they believe so strongly in its message seems counterproductive and detracts from what this film is about. It is, in fact, the opposite of the point."
Sklenar added that someone close to him has been deeply affected by a relationship similar to the one portrayed in the film, and credited the story with helping that person through a difficult time.
"There isn't a single person involved in the making of this film that was not aware of the responsibility we had in making this," Sklenar noted, emphasizing the film’s aim to address generational trauma and domestic abuse.
Sklenar expressed his disappointment in the backlash, particularly how it has targeted the women involved in the film. He urged fans and critics alike to reflect on their intentions before spreading negativity online, advocating instead for a collective effort to support and uplift the voices of women.
"All I ask is that before you spread hate on the internet, ask yourself who it's helping," he wrote. "Let's be a part of something better together. A part of a new story being written for women and all people everywhere."
As the buzz around It Ends With Us continues, the focus has shifted from the film’s themes to the alleged tensions among its stars. However, Sklenar’s message seeks to redirect attention to the film’s true purpose: spreading awareness and inspiring hope. Concluding his post with a call for kindness, Sklenar wrote, "Lead with love and please be kind."
"What may or may not have happened behind the scenes does not and hopefully should not detract from what our intentions were in making this film," he concluded.
