Bella Hadid landed in Cannes this week and ditched her trademark dark chocolate strands for a honey-blonde updo.

Over on X, her look was met with a celebration of pop culture resets, with one viral quote tweet saying, “Welcome back 1999.”

The blonde renaissance – kickstarted in recent years by Margot Robbie’s Barbie saga and kept alive by bombshell Sydney Sweeney – has its newest (and arguably most unexpected) poster girl.

While she skipped the 2025 Met Gala, Cannes is Bella’s real runway. This year, though, she went bold with the hair instead of the clothes, and we love it. Wearing a sleek white corset top, tailored white pants, and vintage Saint Laurent heels, Hadid arrived at the Hôtel Martinez with her hair, complete with a dramatic side part and a single piece falling perfectly beside her cheek.

Here’s what makes this feel like a huge vibe shift and not just another trip to the salon: Bella Hadid has always been framed as the brunette to Gigi’s blonde. She even told Allure back in 2016, “I just have a darker personality. And my sister being blonde and me being brunette, it’s a good separation.”

“I put a blonde wig on and think it would be fun to go back, but I’m happy with my hair,” she said at the time. “Blondes are so angelic. My sister can get away with anything.”

So, is this the final nail in the coffin for the brunette bombshell archetype? Of course not! But let’s just say the pendulum is swinging – and blondes are having their moment in the media once again.
