This week's Interview Magazine featured two icons: Lana Del Rey and Billie Eilish.

The "Video Games" singer was tasked with asking questions, so she inquired a little bit about Eilish's love life. Eilish and The Neighborhood's Jesse Rutherford became a subject of age-gap controversy when they were spotted together in 2022. The multi-Grammy Award Winner had just turned 21 at the time, while Rutherford was 31. They met when she was only 15.

After less than one year of dating, the two were last seen together at Coachella in April 2023. Unfortunately, Del Rey mainly asked about how Eilish dealt with breakups, but we got some good info out of it!

"I was wondering, when one of your romantic relationships ends, do you think you leave them with a thousand questions? Or do they leave you with a thousand questions? Or is it split 50-50? Is it more dangerous to fall in love with you? Or is it more dangerous for you to fall in love?" she asked.

After a bit of back and forth, Eilish confessed, "I don’t even know. I think 50-50 is probably accurate. I literally hate who I am so much when I’m in love."

Then, Eilish reveals the truth about her past breakups: She's never been dumped. "I really don’t like being—I was going to say out of control, but there’s ways that I do like being out of control," she said. "I have a power issue and a control issue, and I also don’t like being vulnerable in a romantic way. It makes me feel uncomfortable, and I don’t know how many times I’ve really been in love."

"I think there’s different versions of love, and I think that you can be in love and it might not be deep. I’m not going to get too in detail, because I’m going to be rude, but I’ve never been dumped, and also, I’ve never been broken up with. I’ve only done the breaking up," Eilish added. She's young, talented, pretty, and funny – who'd break up with her?!

I guess this means we can safely assume that she dumped Rutherford. Her fans are probably happy about this because not everyone was excited about their relationship...especially when Eilish dressed as a baby for Halloween and Rutherford an old man. Or how Rutherford was rumored to be her best friend's ex, which we won't get into today.

Eilish also said, "And I think when people hear that, they’re like, 'Oh, all you do is break hearts.' Sure, but that doesn’t mean that people are totally innocent. It means that I was like, 'Oh, let me get the f*ck out of here.' Or it means things just weren’t right."

Del Rey insists that when "you get enough intel," that's when you're out. "That's usually what it is for me," Eilish agreed. "That’s what I’m saying. 'You did this, b*tch,'" she later joked.

But the singer clarifies that letting go of someone hurts just as much as getting dumped. "Now, some of y’all about to be real mad at me, but I do believe that breaking up with someone versus being broken up with—obviously being broken up with hurts like hell, especially when you don’t see it coming and you wanted a future and it’s taken out of your hands," she explained. "But honestly, the pain of knowing that you have to end something with somebody that you genuinely love is so horrible."

"It stays with you longer," Del Rey said.

"I think so, too. And you don’t get to even have the, like, 'I got dumped, so f*ck you guys. I get to go crazy and have a reaction and be mad at you. And I get to make you into an enemy, because you broke up with me.' You can’t do that. You can’t become a victim," Eilish said.

Despite all of the revelations and rumors, Eilish says that she and her ex are on good terms. Last year, the “What Was I Made For” singer posted an “Ask Me a Question” prompt to her Instagram Story. A fan simply asked, “Jesse???” likely referring to their breakup.

“Very very good friends only,” Eilish responded. “My homie forever.”
