Lizzo was recently under fire for using the word "spaz" in one of her songs called "Grrrls," and she even released a statement apologizing for using this "harmful word." She wanted to make it clear: "I never want to promote derogatory language. As a fat black woman in America, I’ve had many hurtful words used against me so I [understand] the power words can have (whether intentionally or in my case, unintentionally). As an influential artist I’m dedicated to being part of the change I’ve been waiting to see in the world."

Award-winning artist Beyoncé is going through the same exact thing now with one of her new songs called "Heated."

Beyonce Is Forced to Remove a Lyric From Her New Album Because It's Considered "Derogatory Language"

The lyrics are "spazzing on that ass, spaz on that ass." The word "spaz" has always been American slang for going crazy or wild but there are some people online who consider it an ableist slur because it can be used as a derogatory term to refer to people with disabilities.

There was backlash online towards Beyoncé and some users accused her of using "derogatory language."

The lyric gained so much attention that Beyoncé was finally forced to remove it from her song. Her representatives confirmed on Monday that the phrase would be removed from "Heated." They said "the word, not used intentionally in a harmful way, will be replaced."

This is Beyoncé's first full-length album since "Lemonade" in 2016 and her fans have been particularly excited about the release for some time now. Beyoncé has long been a beacon for progressive ideals, particularly when it comes to race and gender, but even she is not immune to the criticism of the left.
