AOC And The Radical Left's Call For "Accountability" For Trump Supporters Echoes Dictatorships Of The Past

One of the most terrifying novels about totalitarianism you probably haven’t read, but your grandparent’s generation did, is Arthur Koestler’s “Darkness at Noon.” And it looks like the American hard-Left is taking a page right out of this book when they compiled a “list” of political enemies they aim to punish.

While just about anyone who’s aware of the horrors of totalitarianism had heard of George Orwell’s 1984, significantly fewer people are aware of how Koestler’s novel about the evils of Socialism inspired Orwell to write 1984. Darkness at Noon had more or less disappeared from our collective consciousness. And this is quite possibly done by design because the book had substantially destroyed the popularity of Marxist ideas for the older generation.

Koestler, who was part of Europe’s Communist revolution, experienced first-hand all the atrocities of a Socialist state. The novel, which was originally written in German, was so extremely successful, it sold over 2 million copies in French. Yet, up to today, there still isn’t a movie adaptation of Darkness at Noon. The cabal of Communist Hollywood screenwriters made sure of that, and they’re proud of it too

The hard Left today wants to treat political opposition as a crime.

So what does a book published in 1940 have to do with the fallout of our most recent election? Well, just observe how the hard Left today wants to treat political opposition as a crime – something right out of Darkness at Noon – when they created a database to list their political opposition in the “Trump Accountability Project.” Politicians like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC), for example, called for the documenting and blacklisting of Trump supporters for the purpose of punishing them in the future.

The “Trump Accountability Project”

Mirroring the world of Darkness at Noon, Leftist activists came up with the “Trump Accountability Project,” in which Trump supporters will be systematically punished for supporting the President. And in case you’ve attempted to brush this off as the Left’s hyperbolic attempt to make a political statement, among those who are to be punished by the “Trump Accountability Project” includes “those who elected him” and “those who funded him.”

According to the website: “The world should never forget those who, when faced with a decision, chose to put their money, their time, and their reputations behind separating children from their families, encouraging racism and anti-Semitism, and negligently causing the unnecessary loss of life and economic devastation from our country’s failed response to the COVID-19 pandemic.”

This is a terrifying step towards despotism. In a free society, you have the right to associate with any political faction as you desire. No one has the right to stop you from exercising your political right. Yet, the mini-despots from the extremist Left are doing just that by attempting to terrorize their political opponents into silence.

No Room for Dissent

In Darkness at Noon, the protagonist, who himself used to be one of the leaders in The Communist Party, realized the ingenious way of how the Communist tyrants managed to seize total and complete power: “Amateur tyrants had forced their subjects to act on command; Number One had taught them to think on command.”

And that’s what we’re observing with the “list of Fascists” compiled through the “Trump Accountability Project.” Political dissidents are systematically subjugated through tactics of intimidation. The ax will first fall on the heads of the wealthy and the prominent supporters of the President, both in the public and the private sectors. But make no mistake, the ax will then fall on the heads of anyone else who disagrees politically with the intolerant Left.

Political dissidents are systematically subjugated through tactics of intimidation.

Like every intolerant regime, first, they’ll go after the President, later his supporters, and finally, they’ll come after you. You’re next. Your freedom of thought be damned. You will become the enemy once you do something to upset their plan — even when you’re just practicing your own right to freely associate politically against them.

Silence by Order of the State

Like the fictional tyrant known as Number One in Darkness at Noon, the hard Left in America will tolerate no difference of opinions. Freedom of thought is simply not allowed. One either toes the party line, or else you’ll suffer the same treatment as those who were purged by Stalin for daring to hold opposing opinions. During the rule of Stalin, those whom his regime couldn’t persuade to follow their orders were summarily executed.

During the rule of Stalin, those whom his regime couldn’t persuade to follow their orders were summarily executed.

And just like the protagonist in Darkness at Noon, AOC will suffer the same outcome. There have already been talks in the Democratic Party of purging AOC and her squad, now that they’ve outlived their usefulness to the party. In every Socialist revolution, once the “useful idiots” have served their purpose in persuading the public to give up all rights, the idealistic true-believer will always be purged by the party strongman who has more political experience.

Closing Thoughts

Luckily for Americans, our country hasn't reached fictional or even Soviet levels of censorship. But that doesn't mean we don't have people trying to get us there. Hopefully, the fail-safes written into our constitution against such campaigns will hold the radicals at bay. But they will only work so long as we defend them.
