Officials are investigating another trail derailment from this morning in Van Buren Township, Michigan. 30 cars were said to have derailed sometime before 8:45 A.M. on February 16. The train was purported to have collided with another train, prompting two cars to fall off the tracks and land on their sides.

Luckily, local officials have allegedly reported that only one of the cars contained hazardous materials. It apparently was not damaged or leaking, but officials still urged residents to stay away from the area for safety measures. Van Buren Township's Fire Chief David McInally says the cars will be "cleaned up and removed from the crash site." Reporter Ryan H. Marshall asks him if these train derailments occur often. "It doesn't really happen a whole lot, does it?" he asks. McInally responds with, "No, it doesn't."

On February 3, a train derailment in East Palestine, Ohio, caused toxic chemicals to spread into the air and water supplies. Some individuals have reported symptoms similar to allergic reactions, while some animals in the affected area are falling sick and dying. Ohio Governor Mike DeWine has requested federal disaster assistance, which the Biden administration declined.
