The 2024 presidential election may seem far away, but people are already casting their loyalties to a candidate. Hollywood actress Alicia Silverstone, best known for her iconic role of Cher Horowitz in the cult classic Clueless, announced on her Instagram that she is supporting Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. Aside from her acting career, Silverstone's dedication to political activism has been a defining feature of her personal and professional life. An outspoken vegan and environmentalist, she authored the best-selling book The Kind Diet in 2009, promoting plant-based eating and lifestyle choices that are kind to the earth.

Silverstone's advocacy for animal rights is also at the heart of her activism. As a long-time supporter of PETA, she has used her platform to raise awareness about animal cruelty in various industries, even posing nude for a PETA campaign to protest against wool production. In recent years, Silverstone has also voiced her concerns about climate change and its ramifications, urging her followers to take individual action and supporting politicians who prioritize environmental policies. Notably, she was an avid supporter of Bernie Sanders in his 2020 presidential campaign due to his strong stance on climate change. But on Tuesday, she shared on her Instagram why she is choosing to support RFK, Jr.

"Last year, I canceled my Democratic Party registration and registered as an Independent voter," Alicia wrote in the caption. "Like many others, I am deeply disappointed with political leadership at every turn. The division, the lies, the profiteering at the expense of the people and public health."

She also shared a campaign video of RFK Jr., which included a compilation of his supporters speaking about why they love him and clips of his speeches. "My mission will be to end the corrupt merger of state and corporate power that is threatening a new kind of corporate feudalism," he said in a speech when he announced his campaign, "to poison our children and our people with chemical and pharmaceutical drugs, to strip out our assets, to hollow out our middle class, and keep us in a constant state of war." The crowd erupted in cheers.

Silverstone says RJK, Jr. gives her hope for everyone, young or old, to trust the government once again. "This man gets me excited about the potential for truth and justice," she wrote. "Bobby is a true leader. He loves our country deeply and is the most courageous warrior. He fights for all mothers and children. He fights for our planet, fairness, and freedom."

She also said that he is someone who can actually unite the country, rather than divide it. She loves his "vision of peace, unity, and justice for all." RJK, Jr. has made it clear that he wants to resolve poverty, pollution, and inequality, making him the perfect candidate for Silverstone.

RFK, Jr. is a prominent figure in the anti-vaccine movement and a member of one of the United States' most influential political families. He announced his surprising bid for the Democratic nomination in the 2024 presidential race in May. The former environmental lawyer, now known for his controversial stance on vaccines, launched his campaign against the incumbent President Joe Biden in Boston, drawing historical parallels with the American Revolution.

Kennedy's mission, he has stated, is to dismantle the union of corporate and state power that, in his view, is steering the country in a dangerous direction. Despite his well-known political lineage and shared Kennedy charisma, he is emerging as a unique Kennedy contender in American politics. Kennedy's career has taken an unorthodox trajectory. Initially known for his work in environmental law, particularly on clean water issues, he has increasingly become a leading figure in the anti-vaccine movement over the past two decades. This transition has been marked by associations with far-right figures and groups, leading to him being perceived as a propagator of misinformation by mainstream media and Democratic politicians.

His affiliation with such figures has intensified since the Covid pandemic, with Kennedy appearing at events contesting the legitimacy of the 2020 presidential election and associating with controversial personalities such as Roger Stone and Michael Flynn. These alliances were showcased on social media platforms, including an appearance on the conspiracy-oriented Infowars channel. His narrative has expanded to include accusing Dr. Anthony Fauci of conspiring against democracy in his best-selling 2021 book, The Real Anthony Fauci. He argues that the Covid vaccine, just like many other vaccines from Big Pharma, has had a detrimental effect on people's health and well-being.

Under Kennedy's leadership, the Children’s Health Defense has become a prominent spreader of information about vaccines that people will hear nowhere else. This organization, which saw its revenue double from 2019 to 2020 and again in 2021, has been particularly active during the pandemic, gaining traction and resources in order to better educate citizens on their medical decisions. Kennedy once drew a comparison between pandemic containment measures and the Holocaust, for which he has since apologized.

As Kennedy embarks on his presidential bid, polls suggest a level of support that belies his outsider status. However, whether the Democratic party and broader electorate align with his views remains to be seen. It's clear, though, that his unconventional approach is causing a stir within the political landscape.
