8 Celebrities Who Regret Their Plastic Surgery

Plastic surgery is all too common in Hollywood, almost as if it’s a rite of passage. It’s not surprising in the slightest to even see a teenager in the industry get breast implants, but now that we’re seeing more celebrities come forward with plastic surgery regret, perhaps more women will think twice before opting in for this big decision.

In recent years, the United States has seen a notable increase in the number of women undergoing plastic surgery, reflecting broader global trends toward aesthetic enhancements. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), one of the most reliable sources for statistics on cosmetic procedures, reports a significant rise in plastic surgery among women in the U.S. In their latest annual report, the ASPS highlighted that millions of women undergo cosmetic procedures each year, with non-surgical treatments like Botox and filler injections seeing the highest demand, followed by surgical procedures such as breast augmentation, liposuction, and rhinoplasty.

One of the primary drivers of this increase is the changing societal norms around beauty and aging. Social media, Hollywood, and the widespread availability of high-definition imagery have contributed to a heightened focus on physical appearance. Influencers and celebrities openly sharing their cosmetic surgery experiences have also played a crucial role in destigmatizing these procedures, making them more mainstream. Megan Fox’s recent appearance on Call Her Daddy included a viral moment when she named all the plastic surgeries she has had in the past (except one that she is “gatekeeping”). Moments like this make young women more and more interested in cosmetic enhancements.

Technological advancements in plastic surgery have also made a wide range of procedures more effective with shorter recovery times. This has made plastic surgery a more appealing option for many women looking to enhance their appearance or address specific physical concerns. Furthermore, the development of non-surgical aesthetic treatments has opened up the field of cosmetic enhancements to a broader audience, offering less invasive options for those hesitant to undergo surgery.

Economic factors cannot be overlooked in understanding the rise in plastic surgery. With the growth of financing options for cosmetic procedures, these surgeries have become more financially accessible to a wider segment of the population. Moreover, there's a growing claim that plastic surgery has potential psychological benefits, including improved self-esteem and body image, but this remains to be seen.

Although some celebrities like Megan Fox are celebrating their plastic surgery decisions, there are plenty who are coming forward to discuss their regret over what they have chosen to do with their bodies. These are eight celebrities who regret their plastic surgery choices.

Kylie Jenner

In a 2023 segment of The Kardashians, Kylie Jenner shared her reflections on undergoing breast augmentation surgery at 19, just before her surprise pregnancy with her daughter, Stormi. During a candid chat with her friend Stassie Karanikolaou, Jenner expressed regret over the decision, emphasizing how it led her to value her natural body more in hindsight. She voiced concerns about her daughter potentially seeking cosmetic surgery at a young age, stating, "I would be heartbroken if she wanted to get her body done at 19." She didn’t refer to any other cosmetic procedures that she has had in the past, such as lip fillers, but many fans suspect that she has had a lot more work done than just breast implants.

Bella Hadid

Contrary to widespread speculation that she has undergone extensive cosmetic procedures, including eye lifts and jawline reshaping, supermodel Bella Hadid (who has been named the most beautiful woman in the world) clarified to Vanity Fair that these rumors are unfounded. She attributed one particular photo from her teenage years, where she appeared unusually puffy, as the source of these assumptions.

Hadid emphasized, "I've never used filler. I want to clear that up. While I have nothing against it, it's not something I've chosen for myself." She revealed that the secret behind her occasionally altered appearance is actually face tape, a classic beauty trick, rather than surgery.

She did, however, confirm she had a nose job at 14 years old – a decision she now regrets. “I wish I had kept the nose of my ancestors,” she said. “I think I would have grown into it.”

Hadid further expressed feeling like an outsider in her field, suggesting that impostor syndrome and public scrutiny have made her journey more challenging. She asserted, "I've been consistently misunderstood by both the industry and those around me. Despite what others may believe, my looks have been misconceived, and I stand by my choices."

Some people are simply not convinced that Hadid’s only cosmetic enhancement was her nose job, especially considering how different her face looks today compared to her younger years. But she has stood by her claim that her nose is the only thing she has touched.

Chrissy Teigen

In 2020, Chrissy Teigen announced her decision to remove her breast implants, a choice she described as "no biggie" in a candid Instagram post. Known for her forthrightness, Teigen declared, "I'm getting my boobs out!" signaling a significant change in her life. She reflected on her years with implants, acknowledging their role but expressing a desire for change. "They've been great to me for many years, but I'm just over it," Teigen shared, highlighting practical reasons for her decision. She yearned for simpler pleasures, like fitting comfortably into her dresses and lying on her stomach without discomfort.

Further elaborating on her decision, Teigen noted that after the removal, she "still have boobs, they'll just be pure fat." She playfully remarked on the nature of breasts, calling them "a dumb, miraculous bag of fat.” This statement was more than just a flippant comment; it was a nod to the natural beauty and reality of the human body, stripped of any artificial enhancements. Teigen's open dialogue about her surgery not only shed light on her personal choices but also contributed to broader conversations about body image, self-acceptance, and the pressures women face to conform to certain beauty standards.

Danica Patrick

In a PEOPLE magazine feature, ex-NASCAR star Danica Patrick discussed the health ordeal she faced due to her breast implants, which she initially got in November 2014, aiming for a more feminine and appealing appearance. Despite enjoying the initial years, by 2017, Patrick experienced a decline in her health, marked by fatigue, unexplained weight gain, dryness, and significant hair loss. Mistaking these symptoms for hormonal imbalance, she endeavored to "dig deeper" in search of a solution.

The situation escalated when her implants hardened, significantly affecting her personal interactions and self-perception. Patrick recalled the discomfort of physical closeness, haunted by the awareness of her implants' artificiality. Her quest for answers led her down a "pretty deep rabbit hole" of medical tests, yet the cause remained elusive until early 2022. That's when she encountered social media content about Breast Implant Illness (BII), a condition associated with various symptoms like fatigue, brain fog, and joint pain, regardless of the implant type or the time since the procedure.

This revelation prompted her to attribute her prolonged health issues to BII, a condition acknowledged by the FDA, which notes its occurrence can be immediate or years post-implantation. Patrick's journey highlights the importance of listening to your body and the potential impacts of cosmetic enhancements on health.

Ariana Grande

In a recent Vogue Beauty Secrets video on YouTube, Ariana Grande opened up about her past cosmetic procedures, revealing that she had undergone numerous lip fillers and Botox treatments over the years. However, Grande mentioned that she ceased these enhancements in 2018 due to feeling overly concealed and burdened by the artificiality. She reflected on how her perspective on beauty evolved, shifting from a focus on concealing herself to embracing the natural aging process. Expressing a newfound appreciation for the visible marks of laughter and emotion, Grande said she looks forward to seeing her smile and cry lines deepen, celebrating aging as a positive and natural aspect of life. Grande, however, candidly discussed the possibility of considering a facelift in the future.

Pamela Anderson

In a 1999 interview, famed Baywatch actress Pamela Anderon shared her spontaneous decision to remove her breast implants. She expressed to Entertainment Tonight that the presence of the implants began to feel inappropriate and aesthetically displeasing to her, leading to increased self-consciousness. Despite stating there were no health issues prompting this choice, she disclosed an incidental finding that one implant had developed a leak. “I’ve been thinking about it for a long time,” she said. “I feel like I’m a petite person and just having these large breasts was, it just didn’t feel right any more.”

Ashley Tisdale

In a candid 2020 Instagram update, Ashley Tisdale revealed her decision to remove her breast implants, linking the procedure she underwent years ago to subsequent health concerns. Tisdale opened up about her initial reasons for getting implants, explaining that she sought to address feelings of inadequacy through the surgery, which briefly succeeded in boosting her self-esteem. However, over time, she faced an array of health issues, including food sensitivities and digestive problems, that she couldn't overlook. These challenges prompted a deep personal reflection and growth journey for Tisdale. “Prior to the surgery, I constantly felt my body was less than, and thought this change would make me feel more whole and more secure about myself. And for a short period of time…it did,” she wrote. But it wasn’t worth it when all the health problems started rolling in.

Courteney Cox

In a revealing 2017 conversation, Friends icon Courteney Cox discussed her decision to reverse her use of facial fillers, aiming for a more natural appearance. Cox shared how incremental suggestions from doctors for "a little injection here or filler there" led to her face becoming increasingly altered over time, a change she didn't fully recognize as it was happening gradually. She expressed a newfound contentment with her appearance, feeling that she now reflects more accurately the person she was before the procedures. Cox articulated a shift in perspective regarding the aging process and the quest to maintain a youthful appearance. She acknowledged the inevitability of aging, noting her previous attempts to counteract it only resulted in an unnatural look.

Emphasizing the importance of facial movement, particularly with her thin skin, Cox highlighted that what she once might have considered flaws are, in fact, natural expressions of joy. "Those aren't wrinkles, they're smile lines," she remarked, signaling a journey toward self-acceptance. Cox's experience underlines a broader realization that embracing your authentic self, inclusive of natural aging, can be more fulfilling than pursuing perfection through cosmetic interventions.
