Kanye West shocked the world when he visited with then-President Donald Trump and wore a MAGA hat. Since then, he has been the target of smear campaigns and savage criticism. Many people cite his mental illness struggles as the culprit of his political views. Kanye most recently garnered much attention for wearing a shirt that said "white lives matter" on the back while standing next to conservative pundit Candace Owens in Paris at a fashion show. He was accused of spreading "dangerous" information and being a "self-hating" black man.

But Kanye decided to set the record straight for himself. He spoke to Tucker Carlson on Fox News to share some insight into his political views, public decisions, and his faith. Here are five things we learned from the first installment of the interview.

1. Everyone in Hollywood Told Him His Career and Life Would Be Over if He Supported Donald Trump

Kanye was discouraged from coming out in support of Trump, but in 2018 he went against all the advice from the people around him and decided to follow his own path. He visited the White House and sat down with then President Trump to talk about how black people are just expected to be Democrats, the lack of "male energy" in his childhood home, and the importance of strengthening middle America.

Kanye told Tucker that everyone told him both his career and his life would be over if he came out in support of Trump, but he refused to listen. Tucker asked him what he liked about Trump and Kanye responded with a smile, "Trump's the sh*t. He has his own buildings."

When he talked about the resistance he met for supporting Trump, Kanye added, "God builds warriors in a different way." He added that when people saw him wear the "white lives matter" t-shirt, someone said to him, "Anyone wearing a 'white lives matter' shirt is going to be green lit." He explained that means he was going to be beat up by others.

2. Kanye Opposes Abortion, Especially in the Black Community

In 2020 when Kanye ran for President, he spoke at a rally in Charleston about how he and his daughter North were almost aborted. He got emotional recalling how he and Kim considered aborting their baby when she got pregnant, but he had a vision from God that convinced him to raise his child. Kanye spoke to Tucker about abortion after explaining that the lanyard he was wearing had a picture of a baby's ultrasound on it.

"It just represents life. I'm pro-life," Kanye explained. "I care about the fact that there's more black babies being aborted than born in New York City at this point. 50% of black death in America is abortion. So I really don’t care about people’s responses, I perform for an audience of one, and that's God."

3. The Kardashians Allegedly Have Strong Ties to the Clintons

The Kardashians have always rubbed shoulders with liberal politicians, especially the Clintons. Kim has a history of taking photos with and interacting with Hillary Clinton, but Kanye told Tucker that he didn't understand just how connected they were.

"I didn't know how close my own wife was to the Clintons," Kanye said. "I didn't realize it at the time." When Tucker asked just how close they were, he responded, "a cell phone away." Kanye said his ex-wife was manipulated by the Clintons to act a certain way and even promote the coronavirus vaccine on her platforms.

"Yes, there was manipulation," he said. "Me not saying I like Trump was a form of manipulation."

Kanye also pointed out that Jared Kushner's brother Josh Kushner owns 10% of Kim's company Skims, which Kanye helped found. He was uncomfortable with this, considering he only owns 5% of the company. He thought the end result of Skims' marketing campaigns was "overly sexualized," and he didn't want to see his wife and daughters participating in that kind of product.

4. Kanye's Father Was a Black Panther

Kanye referred to his father as "the original Steve Jobs" and told Tucker that he was a Black Panther activist. He explained that the two have a strained relationship because his mother was a liberal actress, so the family tried to separate Kanye from his father. Kanye also described his father as a military brat and the "most elegant and tasteful person that I know." When his father was younger, he was ridiculed by black people for acting too white.

Kanye said he asked his father if he thought the "white lives matter" shirt was funny. His father responded and said it was nothing more than a black man "stating the obvious." Kanye also acknowledged that, as an artist, you don't have to explain the things you do to the public. But when you're a leader, you do owe an explanation. So when Tucker asked him why he wore a "white lives matter" shirt, he responded, "Because they do. It's the obvious thing."

5. Kanye Thinks the Fat Acceptance Movement Is Created To Hurt Black People

Kanye referred to singer and rapper Lizzo, who has been a champion of the body positive movement. "The media wants to put out a perception that being overweight is the new goal when it's actually unhealthy," he said. "Aside from whether it's fashion and vogue, which it's not...it's actually clinically unhealthy. For people to promote that, it's demonic."

Tucker asked why he thinks this kind of message is being promoted. "It's a genocide of the black race," he said. "They want to kill us in any way they can. Planned Parenthood was made by Margaret Sanger known eugenicist with the KKK." But if you dare to say anything negative about these issues, "group mob" and "liberal nazis" will come after you and attack you.
