Going to class and going out are two very different things, so you’ll want to make sure that your college fits are classroom appropriate, while still fun and feminine. And yes, you should dress up for class! Leggings and sweatshirts are comfortable, but these outfits don’t inspire creativity and confidence inside the classroom.

Don’t allow the stress and busyness of a new semester to take away your personal style. It can be really easy to get so overwhelmed by classes and internships that you forget to take time for yourself as well. Use your morning to get ready, do a face mask, and put your best self forward during the day!

With that said, here are 25 outfits that are perfect for returning to college this fall!

1. White Tee and Trousers

Sometimes the simplest outfits are the chicest. Pair a basic white tee with trouser pants for an effortless class look, and add simple accessories to break up the black and white pattern.

2. Corduroy and Denim

A foolproof outfit combination is an oversized button-down shirt and denim. The extra layer keeps you comfortable in cold lecture halls, and can be worn with jeans or shorts, depending on the season. For some added texture, try a corduroy button-down this fall!

3. Simple Sundress

A one-and-done outfit, simple sundresses are perfect outfits for the classroom. While the weather is still warm, enjoy them with sandals. And on colder days, add a denim jacket and sneakers!

4. Mini Skirts

Another transitional favorite is the mini skirt! These skirts can be worn with tees, sweaters, bodysuits, jackets, etc. These skirts are also a great way to add fall colors (pumpkin spice latte, anyone?) to your college attire!

5. Daytime Silhouettes

If the jeans and tee combo feels stale after a few weeks, switch out the simple tee for a dressier top. Feminine details like puff sleeves and lace detailing are great choices for a nicer look, just keep the colors soft to avoid a going-out vibe!

6. Bright Colors

If you’re hoping for a fresh start, choosing a bright color is a fun way to say “hello” on the first day! Denim and a fun top, particularly in shades of pink or yellow, is a flirty and feminine look.

7. Shacket Season

Last year, the shacket was all the rage, and it will be again this year! This versatile shirt-jacket can be worn with jeans, skirts, leggings or even dresses, and is the perfect fall addition to your midweek outfit!

8. Dressed Down Blazer

For a smart casual look, throw on a blazer over a basic tank! Oversized blazers are a must-have piece for the fall, and they aren’t just for the office anymore.

9. School Girl Style

School girl style is very in this fall, and obviously, makes a great look for school. Short, pleated skirts in solid colors like black or navy blue paired with a cute sweater is an easy look to throw on if you’re running late for class.

10. Graphic Tee

For instant cool-girl vibes, tuck a distressed graphic tee into a pair of black denim jeans. White sneakers add some contrast. Finish the look with some basic jewelry!

11. ‘Bout Time for Boots

If you’ve been looking forward to wearing knee-high boots, wear them to class with a cute oversized sweater dress! The right amount of comfort and coziness in the upcoming autumn months, but you’ll look like your favorite influencer. Win-win!

12. Black and White

A classic color combination that will look effortlessly chic? That’s black and white. Black denim and a white sweater – adorable. White mini skirt and a black top – gorgeous. Black leggings and an oversized white button-down – hello, clean girl aesthetic. The options are endless!

13. Statement Sneakers

Another way to spice up some closet basics is to center your look around a bold pair of sneakers. Keep the outfit as neutral as possible, and then add a pair of chunky sneakers or boots to tie everything together!

14. Black and Brown

The fall season inspires darker color combinations, like the semi-controversial black and brown combo. If done correctly, these two colors are the epitome of cozy, autumn vibes! Try a black wide-leg pant and a brown sweater, and keep the accessories dark and minimal.

15. Neutrals and Accessories

It’s almost sweater weather! Neutral color sweaters, like this adorable beige one, paired with denim and a cute headband, is an easy outfit for colder days and a great way to disguise second-day hair!

16. Denim Skirt

Another classic favorite has returned: the denim skirt. Whether your preference is blue or black denim (or both!), denim skirts are a great way to show some leg and break up a style rut. Maybe you pair yours with soft, warm toned sweaters or lean into a more coastal neutral look with light blues and creams, but either way, the denim skirt is an easy outfit choice for transitional weather!

17. Flannels

Is it really fall without flannels? These comfy layers are perfect for walking to class and colder lecture halls, and they bring all the autumn vibes. Pair them with denim, leggings, or even trousers, and if you need extra warmth, opt for a flannel jacket instead!

18. Midi Skirt Moment

Midi skirts are having their own moment this fall, so make sure you have one in your college wardrobe. These versatile skirts come in patterns, solid colors, and a variety of different fabrics, and can be worn with sweaters or tees. In case you need any more convincing, a midi skirt can also be worn for a last minute interview or a class presentation!

19. Flared Leggings and Waffle Knits

Otherwise known as yoga pants, these black comfy pants look super cute paired with an oversized waffle knit, especially in a neutral hue. Sometimes comfy pants are just necessary, and this cozy outfit is perfect for overcast days!

20. Matching Sets and Denim Jackets

Due to the increasing popularity of athleisure, you likely have a cute set somewhere in your closet. To make this comfy cute outfit ready for the classroom, add a denim jacket. Simple layers and colors are flattering and perfect for early morning classes! Don’t forget a coffee!

21. Monochrome

Monochrome looks will be very popular this fall, and luckily for us, they’re super easy to style! All black is an easy option: black denim, black top, and even a black outer layer on colder days.

22. Fall Vibes

Sometimes a flannel just isn’t enough during the later months of fall, and when walking to grab coffee before class, you want to stay warm. Meet the quilted jacket, which looks adorable with a beanie and boots for instant warmth and style.

23. Classroom Cardigans

One of the simplest feminine outfits is a soft cardigan. There is something so sweet and comfortable about a cardigan look, especially in neutral tones or soft pastel colors. Under the cardigan, you can wear a bodysuit or a pretty lace cami, and it can be worn anywhere from the library to date night!

24. Button-Down Bestie

Another lightweight, easy layer is the button-down shirt. Yes, the white one was all over our feeds as a summer must-have, but they also come in other colors that are perfect for fall! A neutral brown striped shirt or even darker tones of taupe and green are great options for a PSL-worthy outfit!

25. Overall Fall

Don’t miss out on the opportunity to wear overalls! While denim ones may feel as classic as your favorite jeans, they also come in fun floral prints and corduroy for a fall twist on an overall favorite! Perfect for class or the pumpkin patch on the weekend!
