With the start of the new year, the celebration of Valentine’s Day, and its moody weather, wintertime is a romantic season for all, and a great time to revamp your date night, whether you're dating in college or married. Take your dating experience to the next level with one of these fun double date ideas. Most of these options can work for one-on-one dates as well if you prefer.

1. Cross Country Skiing

Cross country skiing is the quintessential wintertime activity and a great workout. In places where it snows, arboretums and golf courses become ski courses in the winter. Rent skis if you don’t have your own, and head out across the snow.

2. An Evening at the Theater

For a sophisticated date night, head to your local theater and see a play, musical, or symphony. Enjoy watching the show, and then as a bonus, go out to dinner or grab drinks afterward.

3. Cooking Class

Taking a cooking class is a great activity for couples and is perfect for a double date as well. And the best part is that you can eat what you prepare. I used to work at Sur La Table, and their evening cooking classes were always a popular date night activity for couples.

4. Winter Hike

A hike is always a great outdoorsy date and can even be done in the wintertime. Bundle up and drive out to the nearest state park, and get inspired by the beauty of nature all around (while also getting in a great workout).

5. Visit a Museum

When was the last time you’ve been to a museum? Make a double date out of exploring a museum and learn something new in the process.

6. Day Trip

If you live in the city, plan a day trip to a small town nearby, and if you live in a small town, spend the day in a big city. You’ll be sure to have an incredible time exploring and getting to know the new town.

7. Brunch

Instead of going out to dinner, go out to brunch as a group of four. What better way to start your day than by going on a double date?

8. Go Ice Skating

Ice skating will always be a romantic wintertime date. I grew up figure skating, so skating comes naturally to me, but even if you’re a beginner, you’ll have a fun time on the ice and come away with lots of great memories.

9. Fancy Dinner Out

The dinner date will never get old, but you can switch things up by going out to dinner on a double date. Choose an acclaimed upscale restaurant and slip into your fanciest dress to enjoy quality company and quality food.

10. Watch the Super Bowl

If you and your man are football fans, watching the Super Bowl will be the perfect opportunity for a double date. Have the ultimate tailgate party by bringing snacks and catching up with each other during the commercial breaks.

11. Hole-In-The-Wall

In contrast to a fancy dinner out, sometimes a hole-in-the-wall restaurant is just as good. From street tacos to a local barbeque joint, to save money and have a more authentic experience, go on a double date to your favorite hidden gem restaurant.

12. Dance Class

Dancing is an incredible way to bond as a couple and will serve as a lifelong skill. And going to dance lessons will be even more fun with another couple. Don't take yourselves too seriously!

13. Game Night

Game night is the perfect double date because most games require exactly four people. Decide who’s hosting and gather your favorite snacks and board games, and bring along a deck of cards too.

14. Volunteer Together

An amazing way to spend time together while also adding value to the community is volunteering. Sign up as a group of four at your local food pantry, pregnancy center, or other charitable organization.

15. Go out for Sushi

Sushi is one thing that’s difficult to make at home, so find a quality sushi place to enjoy a healthy and fun meal together.

16. Riflery

What's sexier than seeing your man shooting a gun? Exercise your Second Amendment rights and head out to the shooting range. Trap and skeet is a great way to practice your marksmanship and is also a popular social activity, making it perfect for a double date.

17. Coffee Date

Forever a classic date, meet up at a charming café and have a nice time catching up over coffee and pastries.

18. Historic Tour of Your City

See how well you really know your city. Act like tourists for the day and get to know your location in a whole new light. A trolley tour is always a fun option!

19. Scenic Drive

To just get away, simply go for a drive. If possible, find a scenic drive you can take by water, mountains, or forest. Admire the scenery and turn up the volume on your favorite playlist.

20. Go for a Walk

A simple walk is one of my favorite low-maintenance ways to catch up with friends or spend time with my boyfriend, so why not make it into a double date? Walking is good for you physically, mentally, and in this case, socially, too.

21. Baseball Game

The iconic Americana activity, the baseball game makes for a good double date because the action is slow, so you’ll be able to talk with each other while also watching the game unfold.

22. Attend a Concert

Look into live music in your location. From a country music festival to an up-and-coming band in a public park, or a singer coming to a location close by, find a live music venue and enjoy listening.

23. See a Movie

Another cute and timeless date idea, going out to the movies is a go-to if the weather is cold or rainy outside. Look into the new releases of the year, or rewatch a classic. Check out this list of the best movies to watch as a couple, and have fun laughing and discussing the film afterward.

24. Karaoke Night

A double date is the perfect amount of people to do karaoke with, enough for variety, but not too many to be intimidating. Allow yourself to let loose and just have fun with it!

25. Sledding

Snowing outside? Find a park and feel just like kids again as you fly down the hills. It’s sure to be a fun time and a great workout too, when you have to walk back up the slopes again.

Closing Thoughts

Although the winter weather may be less optimal in some regions, there are still so many great ways to get out and create amazing memories with your loved one and your friends. Take advantage of the opportunities that wintertime has to offer and plan some fun double dates with your favorite people.
