17 Celebrities Who You Might Not Know Have Famous Parents

When I googled him, I quickly realized he was the father of another celebrity I recognized. This got me even more curious, and after some research, I found an entire group of celebrities who had parents who were also celebrities. Here's what I found:

1. Bryce Dallas Howard 

I thought it was appropriate to follow through with my intro story. Jurassic World star, Bryce Dallas Howard, is the daughter of Ron Howard. Ron is most recognized as Opie Taylor, from The Andy Griffith Show. He was only a child on the show, but over the years, he has continued to stay in the industry as an actor, director, screenwriter, and producer. He was also involved with the making of Jurassic World. 

2. Ben Stiller  

Ben Stiller has been in Hollywood for a while now. He has starred in many popular movies like Night at the Museum, Zoolander, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, and more. But you might be surprised to find out his father was also a well-known actor. For those who loved the show King of Queens, Ben’s father is the late Jerry Stiller, who played Arthur Spooner on the series. Jerry Stiller’s wife (and Ben’s mother), Anna Meara Stiller, played Arthur’s love interest on the show. 

3. Miley Cyrus                

Miley has been acting since she was a child, and just like in the series Hannah Montana, Billy Ray Cyrus is her dad in real life. Both are musicians, and have several family members who are also in the music industry. 

4. Jack Quaid

Jack Quaid has not one celebrity parent, but two, and both are very recognizable in the film industry. His father is Dennis Quaid, who has starred in several movies, such as Parent Trap, with Lindsay Lohan. Jack’s mother is the beautiful Meg Ryan, who is also a successful actress in movies like You’ve Got Mail and Sleepless in Seattle. 

5. Hailey Bieber   

When we think of Hailey Bieber now, we recognize her as a style icon, entrepreneur, and Justin Bieber’s wife, but Justin isn’t her only tie to fame. Her father is actor Stephen Baldwin. He played in movies like Born on the Fourth of July, Posse, Bio-Dome and The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas.

6. Lily Collins

The Netflix series Emily in Paris is starred by actress Lily Collins. But many don’t realize that she is the daughter of famous musician Phil Collins, who is known for songs such as "In the Air Tonight" and the Tarzan soundtrack.

7. Colin Hanks  

If you didn’t know Colin Hanks was the son of Tom Hanks, it probably all makes sense now. He is a striking image of his father, who is one of the most recognizable stars worldwide. But both Colin and his father have very successful acting careers. 

8. Chris Pine

You might know him from the classic film Princess Diaries 2, or maybe from Star Trek, or the superhero movie Wonder Woman. But what many don’t know is he is the son of Robert Pine and Gwynne Gilford. Chris’ mother retired from acting but played several roles in the ‘70s and ‘80s. But his father has been in a variety of shows and movies over the years. 

9. Brooklyn Beckham   

Brooklyn Beckham is a model and photographer. But his parents are even more famous than he is. His mother is fashion model Victoria Beckham, and his father is retired soccer player David Beckham. The Beckhams are a tight knit family, and spend lots of time together despite all their separate careers. 

10. Emma Roberts

Emma Roberts has been the lead of multiple shows and films since she was young. Some of them include the series Unfabulous, American Horror Story, Nerve, and Hotel for Dogs. Emma doesn’t have famous parents, but it’s worth noting that her aunt is the iconic Julia Roberts, who has been a highly esteemed American actress for decades. 

11. Angelina Jolie 

Maybe it was naive on my part, but until recently, I had no idea that Angelina Jolie was the daughter of Jon Voight. Voight is also a well-known actor, playing in movies like Holes, Zoolander, National Treasure, and more. 

12. Kate Hudson

You’ve either seen Kate Hudson in movies like Bride Wars, How To Lose a Guy in 10 Days, and My Best Friend’s Girl, or you might recognize her from her fitness apparel brand, Fabletics. But her mother, Goldie Hawn, is also a recognizable actress, dancer, producer, and singer. 

13 & 14. Jaden and Willow Smith  

Depending on what generation you were born in, you might be familiar with Will Smith, for his extremely popular TV series Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and countless movie roles. But if you’re part of Gen Z, maybe you know his kids better, Jaden and Willow. Each has their own acting or music career. Jaden has done acting roles with his father. Their mother Jada Pinkett Smith is also known for her show Red Table Talk, which features her daughter, Willow. 

15. Zoë Kravitz

She plays in movies like Batman, X-Men, Divergent, and Big Little Lies, but Zoe Kravitz isn’t the only famous person in her family. Her father is singer/songwriter Lenny Kravitz, and her mother is American actress Lisa Bonet.

16. Dan Levy               

Dan Levy really came into the limelight with his character David in the TV series Schitt’s Creek. In the series, his father, Johnny Rose, who is played by Eugene Levy, is his actual father. The quirky waitress in the show (Twyla), is played by Dan’s sister, Sarah Levy. Eugene Levy has been in multiple movies over the years, usually playing an eccentric role. He is often recognized for his distinct thick and dark eyebrows. 

17. Dakota Johnson

Recognized for her role in films like Fifty Shades of Grey, How To Be Single, and her recent film Persuasion, Dakota Johnson has become an established actress. But her first debut was at 10 years old, with her mother, Melanie Griffith. She is also the daughter of actor, producer, director, and singer, Don Johnson. 

Closing Thoughts

The Internet is a fascinating place. You can read up on the history of any celebrity and their family history. This is also slightly frightening, to think that when you become famous, your entire life story and record are put online. But something I noticed about each celebrity who has famous parents is that they still came to fame on their own merit. Having famous parents might have helped get them involved in the industry, but it was through their own talents that they became so popular. Needless to say, I’m sure their parents have a sense of pride that their kids followed in their footsteps.
