In summer, your outfit choice is very important. The last thing you want to do is be stuck in a woven polyester top when it’s 90 degrees out and your date wants to lunch on the patio. During such emergencies, airflow is crucial, and synthetic fabrics aren’t it.

If there’s a locale that knows a thing or two about staying cool when it’s hot, especially when it comes to wardrobe, it’s Australia. Home to some of the warmest temps—and most suntanned population—in the world, our sisters down under have summer style dialed in. They know that the magic words in any summer collection are: “linen,” “maxi,” and “matching set." And they’re not wrong.

Australian fashion brands are hot right now, with good reason. The Australians have nailed “resortwear,” or the vacation aesthetic. Why? Much like the French, Australians understand the importance of joie de vivre. They know that life isn’t just about work, and getting ahead. The enjoyment metric is key, and it’s reflected in how they dress: breathable fabrics, pretty prints, breezy, feminine silhouettes; in other words, all-natural glam. (Which is the best kind.)

Looking to channel carefree Aussie this summer? Here are the 10 best Australian brands to shop:

Vacay Mode

In my (unpopular) opinion, clothing should be entirely optional June through August. But that’s just me. Since clothes are still required in most places (excluding some European beaches), one thing's for certain: if you have to wear something, it should absolutely be a dress or matching set. These two categories are somehow at least 10 degrees cooler than any other option. And if you live somewhere hot, every degree counts. The Aussies understand this. So when temps are approaching triple digits, shop Australian. Vacation mode will thank you.
