Cardi B was slammed on X (formerly Twitter) after she uploaded a video of herself sharing her thoughts on Netflix's thriller Baby Reindeer. In the show, a man is stalked by a mentally ill woman. The main character is implied to conform to homosexuality due to being sexually abused.

She discussed the rape scene, saying, “It's so important” to empathize with men and understand what they’re going through when they become victims of abuse. “We don't really get to hear or see what other men go through when they experience sexual assault,” she said on Instagram.

Cardi B continued, noting that some men are born gay but that some get sexually assaulted “and then they find out that they are gay.”

When her statements were posted to X by a hip-hop news site and she got slammed for her remarks, Cardi B hit back: "I was talking about the show BABY REINDEER!!"

While the rapper is mainly talking about the character in the show (she's definitely not homophobic, so I don't know why people came for her), there may be a link between child sexual abuse and homosexuality. A 2012 published paper by Andrea L. Roberts, M. Maria Glymour, and Karestan C. Koenen found a "positive association between childhood maltreatment and same-sex sexuality in adulthood, with lesbians and gay men reporting 1.6 to 4 times greater prevalence of sexual and physical abuse than heterosexuals."

One explanation may be due to how "maltreatment may cause loss of self-worth and create a stigmatized identity in victims; therefore, maltreated persons with same-sex preferences may be more willing to adopt another stigmatized identity, namely minority sexual orientation."

Cardi B has always been one to speak her mind, unlike most celebrities. In November 2023, the rapper spoke out against New York City Mayor Eric Adams after he called for budget cuts that would affect police, libraries, schools, firefighters, and sanitation. "I'm an angry *ss b*tch, and I'm about to go off right now..." she said in a heated video, "If something happens to me, it's because I'm speaking the truth."
