Many conservative influencers publicly mourned the death of Zoe Bethel, Miss Alabama 2021, who died on February 18 from brain injuries. She was in a coma for several days.
Editor's Note: This article has been updated from its original version as of March 7, 2022. Information regarding a personal Venmo account that was reportedly created to raise money for Zoe's family has been removed due to claims that this account is not connected to the family. We have also removed comments regarding the GoFundMe page set up by Zoe's brother.
Originally, Zoe Bethel's family reported that she had been involved in an unspecified accident which resulted in major brain damage. Soon after, we heard that she sustained the injuries from a car accident. But after she passed away at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, the stories just kept getting stranger and stranger.
There Were Originally Different Stories about Zoe Bethel's Death
Zoe's family released a statement while she was in a coma, informing everyone that she was fighting for her life. “Unfortunately the doctors are saying the damage cannot be repaired & that she may not have much time left," the family said. "We are praying for God's will to be done, regardless of what that may look like."
After a preliminary police investigation, the Miami PD found that it was a "possible suicide attempt," which was much different than the original car accident narrative. Investigators claim that Zoe "fell out of a third-floor window" and was immediately taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital in critical condition. After being in a coma for several days, Zoe died on February 18, and the Miami-Dade Medical Examiner ruled her cause of death as blunt force trauma. They also stated that there was no foul play suspected, and that her death was nothing more than an accident.
We have been given yet another account of the story, though. A source tells us that Zoe was acting strange on the night she fell from the balcony. She told her brothers that she took some kind of natural supplement, but shortly after, she started acting erratic and out of character. The source says she jumped into the shower with her clothes on because she was feeling hot, then suddenly left the apartment. She allegedly went out into the hallway while she was on the phone with one of her brothers, and this is when the source says she ran off the edge of the balcony and fell to the ground. This source also tells us that Zoe was actually very close with both of her brothers (which differs from what her family member says) and that there were drugs found in her system, but this is yet to be confirmed via a coroner's report.
Sources Close to Zoe Say She Did Not Commit Suicide
However, as all of this information is being released, some of Zoe's friends and a family member couldn't help but think that this all sounded a little fishy. Some of her friends have told us that they saw her in the final two weeks of her life; they spoke to her about various subjects, including the sudden suicide of 30-year-old Miss USA 2019 Cheslie Kryst. Zoe allegedly told them that she could never even think of committing suicide, particularly considering the fact that she was a mother. Her friends say that she seemed vibrant and very content with her current life. One friend was texting her on the day of the accident.
A source extremely close to Zoe tells us that from the very beginning the story about Zoe's death has been suspicious. She was apparently with her two brothers on the night she fell from the balcony.
"The brothers who were there that night cannot keep their story straight and have told multiple stories to multiple people," the source tells us. "You would think I would know, but I don't, and Zoe did not have a car, and there was no car accident."
This source reiterated that neither of Zoe's brothers can "give us a straight story." One brother claims "that she fell off of the building," but "all the details in between have been so conflicting."
We know that one of her brothers whom she was with that night lives in Edgewater, Miami, and she fell from his apartment building. One close friend of Zoe claims "her brothers are liars and have changed the story so many times." She says they initially said she tripped and fell from the balcony, then later said she fell from an open window.
"Also Zoe was married but separated," Zoe's friend says. "Her husband is sad and confused and hurting for his daughter."
This story is still developing, and we're awaiting more information from Zoe's family and friends. We will share the updated details when we have them.
