The 15 Best Hallmark Christmas Movies To Watch In 2022—Ranked From Worst To Best

It’s easy to make fun of Hallmark Christmas movies. They release at least 10 new ones every year, and they’re all so cheesy and predictable (because it’s essentially the same story every time). Despite all of their flaws, I can’t get enough of them.

Though I’m a firm believer that every Hallmark Christmas movie is a cinematic masterpiece, I narrowed the list down to 15 of my favorites. Grab your homemade sugar cookies and hot cocoa, and cozy up on the couch because it’s that time of year again!

15. Noel Next Door (2022)

In the newest movie on our list, Jeremy (Corey Sevier) is a jerk who hates Christmas. However, he’s really hot, so Christmas-loving single mom Noel (Natalie Hall) thinks she can fix him. Is Jeremy just misunderstood and has a reason for being such a Grinch? You’ll have to watch to find out.

14. The Christmas Waltz (2020)

When Avery (Lacey Chabert) is dumped a month before her wedding, she’s stuck with the waltz lessons that she’s already paid for. The handsome instructor (Will Kemp) convinces her to take the dance lessons to lift her spirits, only to discover that her ex-fiancé wasn’t the right man for her for a reason.

13. Christmas Next Door (2017)

Eric (Jesse Metcalfe) has made a career off being bitter when it comes to dating, so it’s no surprise that he also hates Christmas. With the help of his Christmas-loving neighbor, April (Fiona Gubelmann), and young niece and nephew, he learns to let his guard down and to love Christmas again.

12. Christmas Land (2015)

After Jules (Nikki Deloach) inherits her grandmother’s Christmas tree farm, she sells it without thinking of it. After traveling to Christmas Land, she realizes she made a huge mistake and enlists help from a ridiculously handsome lawyer (does every small town have a hunky man who loves Christmas?) named Tucker (Luke Macfarlane) to help win the farm back and save Christmas.

11. Christmas at the Palace (2018)

While Katie (Merritt Patterson) plans a holiday ice skating pageant for the Kingdom of San Senova, she unknowingly befriends the handsome and charming King Alexander (Andrew Cooper). As the planning continues, she rediscovers her love for ice skating, brings the royal family together, and realizes that there’s more to the King than meets the eye.

10. Christmas Town (2019)

On her way to start a new job in a new city, Lauren (Candace Cameron Bure) finds her way to the small town of Grandon Falls. After discovering a picture of her father in a cafe and a handsome handyman named Travis (Tim Rozon), she begins to wonder if she was meant to be in Grandon Falls all along.

9. A Heavenly Christmas (2016)

After workaholic Eve (Kristin Davis) unexpectedly dies (possibly the most depressing beginning to a movie on this list), she’s recruited to be a Christmas Angel by another angel named Pearl (Shirley MacLaine). While helping a single dad named Max (Eric McCormack), Eve realizes that she should have slowed down and celebrated Christmas while she was still alive.

8. One Royal Holiday (2020)

In the middle of a blizzard, Anna (Laura Osnes) meets the incredibly handsome James (Aaron Tveit), who is stranded alongside his mother. Anna offers them a place to stay at her family’s inn in Connecticut, only to find out that James is the crown prince of Galwick. What happens next might be cliché and predictable, but this might be one of the most heartwarming movies on this list.

7. Write Before Christmas (2019)

After getting dumped, Jessica (Torrey DeVitto) decides that she is done with dating and Christmas, so she decides to send Christmas cards (which is kind of counterintuitive to her taking a break from Christmas) to help lift her spirits. Along the way, she meets Luke (Chad Michael Murray), whose life is changed by her simple act of kindness. Can he help her rediscover the magic of both Christmas and love?

6. Christmas in Vienna (2020)

Jess (Sarah Drew) is a violinist who seems to have lost her passion for playing, but a trip to Vienna can change everything. She rediscovers the magic of Christmas and the magic of music, and a ridiculously handsome American man (Brennan Elliott) only makes it better. Maybe love is all the magic she needed after all?

5. Crown for Christmas (2015)

When Allie (Danica McKellar) gets fired from her job a week before Christmas, she takes a job as a governess for a little girl who just happens to be the Princess of Winshire. While the two bond, Allie meets the girl’s dad, King Maximillian (Rupert Penry-Jones) of Winshire, only to learn that she’s the one adult that his daughter hasn’t treated like trash since her mother died. The King is set to marry a countess, but will Allie’s bond with the princess change everything?

4. A Shoe Addict’s Christmas (2018)

If the title alone isn’t proof that this movie is an absolute masterpiece, wait until you hear about the plot! Noelle works at a department store, and her life hasn’t been the same since she was dumped on Christmas Eve a few years ago. When a mysterious woman (Jean Smart) gives her a pair of magical shoes, she learns the true meaning of Christmas alongside a handsome fireman (of course) named Jake (Luke Macfarlane).

3. A Gingerbread Romance (2018)

Taylor (Tia Mowry) is a career-driven city girl who needs help building the best gingerbread house, and she coincidentally meets a handsome pastry chef named Adam (Duane Henry), who just happens to be a single dad. Taylor is usually too busy to celebrate Christmas, but Adam and his adorable daughter teach her the meaning of the holiday.

2. A Christmas Detour (2015)

One of the most cliché movies on this list (so it’s inevitably in the top two because it’s Hallmark), Paige (Candace Cameron Bure) travels to meet her fiancé’s parents for the holidays, only to get stuck on a detour in Buffalo with an old married couple and an unrealistically hot (yet depressed) man named Dylan (Paul Greene). What could possibly go wrong? Or what could go right?

1. A Royal Christmas (2014)

My favorite part of this movie is that the plot could have been written by my 10-year-old self, and I mean that in the best way possible. Right before Christmas, Emily (Lacey Chabert) finds out that her boyfriend, Leo (Stephen Hagan), is actually Prince Leopold, heir to the throne of Cordinia. The couple travels to his home country for Emily to meet his family, only to discover that Leo’s mother, Isadora (Jane Seymour), doesn’t want her son to marry a commoner, and Emily is determined to win her over.

Closing Thoughts

From royal romances to the classic tale of a city girl visiting a small town where she meets a hot farmer and discovers the true meaning of Christmas, everyone knows that Hallmark Christmas movies are cheesy and predictable. Despite these flaws, it’s hard to deny that they’re heartwarming to watch, so why not plan a Hallmark movie marathon this holiday season?
