Taylor Swift donated $13,000 each to two mothers who are financially struggling due to the pandemic.
The singer learned about these two women, Nikki Cornwell from Nashville and Shelbie Selewski from Michigan, in a recent Washington Post article on unemployed Americans who are unable to pay their rent and utilities.
Both women say they’ve fallen behind on their bills and are in danger of being evicted after suffering medical and financial hardships this year.
Swift donated $13,000 to each woman through their GoFundMe pages. (13 is Swift’s favorite number, which explains the seemingly random donation amount.) She also wrote each woman a note of encouragement.
Swift wrote to Nikki: "I read about you in the Washington Post and thought it was really brave of you to share your story. I'm so sorry for everything you've had to go through this year and wanted to send you this gift, from one Nashville girl to another."
Swift’s message to Shelbie says, "I'm sending you this gift after reading about you in the Washington Post. No one should have to feel the kind of stress that's been put on you. I hope you and your beautiful family have a great holiday season."
