Singer, songwriter, actress, and producer Selena Gomez has just added another title to her name - makeup entrepreneur. Gomez released news of a new make-up brand, “Rare Beauty,” this past Tuesday, and since she’s definitely not the first celebrity to come out with her own spin on beauty products, we’re curious to see how it will compare.
The Wizards of Waverly Place actress has not spilled the details yet as to what her specialized makeup line will fully entail, but from her social media account, it looks like it will definitely include bold lip colors and foundation. Gomez’s premise for the line is to showcase a woman’s unique beauty, and her vision is to embrace each person’s individuality.

"I wanted to make a brand where you feel comfortable. You know, I think people feel the pressure — I know I do — where you kind of feel like you need to look like everyone else, or you should get this because that's what everybody else gets...It’s not just a brand. It’s going to be a lifestyle,” she said.
The Disney actress created the brand so women won’t feel pressure to look like everyone else. While she certainly can be anyone she wants and fill any new role she puts her mind to, will this line be a hit or will it get lost in the sea of celebrity name-brand products?
How Will “Rare Beauty” Measure Up?
Gomez is confident that this makeup company will be different because it allows the consumer to show the truest version of themselves. “We are not meant to look like everybody else, we’re meant to look like ourselves,” Gomez says. But just how different will her product be?
Celebrity companies like Jessica Alba’s Honesty cosmetics and skincare line found a niche in the market due to its natural and organic products, which is in huge demand with women who want their products (and beauty) to be clean for a more natural look. Kylie Cosmetics by Kylie Jenner has done very well with its amazing lipsticks made by the same company as ColourPop. (We think maybe her brand did so well thanks to her famous perfect lipstick selfies.)

And who could forget Rihanna’s Fenty Beauty all-inclusive color matching foundation that’s gotten rave reviews? Selena is aiming high, and hopefully, she scores with these unique cosmetics.
“Rare Beauty” will make its debut in the Summer of 2020 and is set to open in Sephora stores across the United States, Canada, and Mexico. We’re ready to see if it will make us more true to ourselves and if it matches up to the other celebrity brands!
