After months of waiting, we finally have a release date for Selena Gomez’s new makeup line, Rare Beauty.
Selena first released news of her plans to launch a makeup line in February 2020, but with the lockdowns and so much unrest, fans were left wondering if they’d have to wait longer than planned to find out her plans for the line.
Today, she announced the line will launch on September 3, exclusively at Sephora and RareBeauty.com. The makeup line, according to Sephora’s website, is “making a stand against unrealistic standards of perfection.” In Selena’s words, “It’s not about being someone else, but being who you are.”
Here’s What We Know about the Line
Designed to feel like your own skin, the line includes a staggering 48 shades of foundation and concealers. There are also lipsticks and eyeshadows, which Gomez has teased in social media posts leading up to the announcement. She’s even promised a mascara that doesn’t clump. Say what?
Gomez explained her views on makeup in an interview with Amy Schumer, saying, "I wanted to start a conversation about how you can make yourself feel great. It’s not necessarily about needing these things to make yourself feel beautiful. People of my generation have all this pressure to look a certain way, and I wanted to make a line that took away a bit of that pressure. I use real people in the campaigns. I have 48 shades of foundation and concealer. It’s all very clean and easy. I wanted people to feel safe."
We already know that Selena is pretty amazing, from her candidness about mental illness to standing up against an industry that exploits young women’s bodies. Once the brand launches, she’ll be able to add beauty guru to her long list of accomplishments.
