One of our favorite athletes, class act Sydney McLaughlin, recently shared a big announcement: her boyfriend popped the question, adding some diamond bling to her gold medal bling.
Sydney McLaughlin, who broke the women’s 400 meter hurdles world record at the Tokyo Olympics, said yes to former NFL player Andre Levrone Jr. on August 25. Andre got down on one knee at the Four Seasons Resort in Scottsdale, Arizona – a luxury vacation spot tucked in breathtaking, cacti-dotted foothills. It really is the perfect romantic location for a proposal.
The gorgeous gold medalist looked stunning, wearing an orange mini dress and clutching a bouquet of sunflowers. She posted photos on Instagram, with a caption that was equally beautiful.
She wrote, “Dear future husband, Till this day I still can’t comprehend how someone who possesses everything I’ve prayed for, has finally come into my life.”
Sydney goes on to praise her fiancé, saying, “Andre, you are the most God-fearing, passionate, honest, loving, hard working, protective, and genuine man I’ve ever met. I see Jesus in you. And as a result it makes you so easy to love. I truly did not know the definition of love until I met you; a sacrificial choice to lay down your life for the well being of another.”
The close of her open letter is powerful: “I will keep my eyes on you, as you keep your eyes on Him. You’re the perfect man to lead me, and I cannot wait to follow.”
In this engagement announcement, McLaughlin essentially penned a summary of marriage – a union so rooted in love that both persons are willing to give up their lives for the other. We have no doubt that she will make a wonderful Mrs. Levrone!
Sydney’s gold medal 4x400 teammates, Allyson Felix, Dalilah Muhammad, and Athing Mu all expressed their congratulations on the post.
Andre also shared photos from the proposal on his Instagram with the caption, “May we never love one another cautiously, but instead always be eager to love one another extravagantly, in the manner that Christ loved the Church.”
The two have only been together since December 2020, but, as Sydney wrote in her open letter, their “growth together exceeds what the dates on a calendar show.”
Cheers to the future Mr. and Mrs. Levrone! We’re already looking forward to the wedding photos.
