Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik's break up became public yesterday amid harassment charges filed against Zayn regarding Gigi’s mother, Yolanda Hadid.

Multiple sources told People Magazine that supermodel Gigi Hadid, 26, and singer Zayn Malik, 28, have broken up.

A family friend told People, “They are not together right now. They are both good parents though. They co-parent. Yolanda is of course very protective of Gigi. She wants the best for her daughter and grandchild.”

News of their breakup comes amid news of a fight between Zayn and Yolanda Hadid. A source told ET that tension had developed among Zayn, Gigi, and Yolanda as Yolanda kept “repeatedly showing up unannounced and uninvited.”

"Zayn felt that Yolanda was getting in the middle of things," a second source told ET.

The Incident

The tension escalated on September 29, when Zayn was at his and Gigi’s Pennsylvania home and got into an argument with Yolanda that got heated and allegedly turned physical.

According to TMZ, Zayn allegedly called Yolanda a "f***ing Dutch s***" and told her to "stay away from [my] f***ing daughter." Zayn then allegedly “shoved” Yolanda “ into a dresser causing mental anguish and physical pain." Zayn denies any physical contact occurred.

Gigi was apparently in Paris at this time, but Zayn was talking to her on the phone during the incident, and screamed at his girlfriend to "strap on some f***ing balls and defend your partner against your f***ing mother in my house."

Additionally, there was a security guard present, whom Zayn told to "Get the f*** out of my f***ing house, copper." Documents obtained by TMZ say Zayn then tried to fight the guard.

Following the argument, a source shared with ET that “Yolanda is telling people around her that Zayn struck her. Yolanda is extremely upset and it has caused issues with Zayn and Gigi. Gigi was not there for the time of the incident, so she’s had to listen to both sides."

Zayn denies striking Yolanda, telling ET in a statement, "I adamantly deny striking Yolanda Hadid, and for the sake of my daughter I decline to give any further details, and I hope that Yolanda will reconsider her false allegations and move towards healing these family issues in private."

Zayn has since been charged with four criminal offenses of harassment. One official document says he pled guilty to one charge, but court officials told TMZ he actually pled no contest.

This past Wednesday, Zayn was fined and put on 90 days probation for each count, totaling 360 days. He is also required to take an anger management class and complete a domestic violence program, as well as refrain from contact with Yolanda and the security guard.

Zayn and Gigi Keep Their Focus on Daughter

The next day, Zayn posted a statement to Twitter, writing, “As you all know I am a very private person and I very much want to create a safe and private space for my daughter to grow up in...In an effort to protect that space for her I agreed to not contest claims arising from an argument I had with a family member of my partner's who entered our home while my partner was away several weeks ago. This was and still should be a private matter but it seems for now there is divisiveness and despite my efforts to restore us to a peaceful family environment that will allow for me to co-parent my daughter in a manner in which she deserves, this has been 'leaked' to the press.”

Gigi’s rep released a statement, saying, "Gigi is solely focused on the best for Khai. She asks for privacy during this time."

Zayn and Gigi share a 1-year-old daughter Khai. They had been in an on-again, off-again relationship since 2015, but reconciled in late 2019. Khai was born at home in September 2020.
