"Elvis" actor Austin Butler has issued a statement following Lisa Marie Presley's death. The 31-year-old actor says he will always "cherish the quiet moments" he and Lisa Marie shared.
Lisa Marie Presley, the daughter of Elvis and Priscilla, has passed away following a cardiac arrest on Thursday at age 54. She is survived by her three daughters and her mother, Priscilla.
Austin Butler will always remember and cherish the time he spent with Lisa Marie Presley. “My heart is completely shattered for Riley, Finley, Harper and Priscilla at the tragic and unexpected loss of Lisa Marie,” Austin said on Friday in a statement to E! News, referring to Lisa Marie's children and her mother.
“I am eternally grateful for the time I was lucky enough to be near her bright light and will forever cherish the quiet moments we shared,” he continued. “Her warmth, her love and her authenticity will always be remembered.”
On Tuesday, Lisa Marie and Priscilla attended the Golden Globes to witness the actor win an award for his portrayal of Elvis in the film Elvis. He trained incredibly hard for the role to master the King's mannerisms and speech. Lisa Marie was impressed with his performance, stating that Austin's portrayal of her father was "FINALLY done accurately and respectfully."
She described the actor as a "sweetheart" on the red carpet. "He's such a sweetheart—an authentic, true sweetheart," she told Access Hollywood. "And just as good off-screen as he is on screen."
At the Golden Globes, Austin paid a tribute to the Tennessee natives: “The Presley family, thank you, guys, for opening your hearts, your memories, your home to me,” he said. “Lisa Marie and Priscilla, I love you forever.”
