2018 has been a great year for beauty! More emphasis has been placed on self-care and preventing rather than treating problems.
Korean beauty and masks were favored, and I did get mildly obsessed with bath bombs (but you can’t blame me when they’re at every store checkout line)! And who can forget Meghan Markle’s wedding, where she glowed with natural makeup that made everyone ditch the Instagram contouring trend of 2017.
Here Are My Favorite Beauty Products of 2018:
Foundation (Daily Wear)
In true Millennial fashion, I tried Glossier’s Skin Tint and loved it. I’ve always preferred more natural makeup (because I don’t have fantastic makeup artist skills) and I love how it covered my redness while still looking like my skin. It’s more of a tinted moisturizer than a foundation. I used it alone or mix it with Charlotte Tilbury’s Light Wonder Foundation.
Foundation (Event or Photoshoot)
I worked with a makeup artist early in my modeling career who swore by Armani’s Luminous Silk Foundation. She said she’d only use it on Taylor Swift when she was going to a red carpet or for a huge campaign because it is more expensive for a smaller bottle. I don't wear it, but if I ever want to look like I have flawless skin, I pick up Armani’s Luminous Silk. It’s incredible and is now being sold in some Sephoras!
Like I said, I’m no makeup pro, so when I saw ads for the Glossier Boy Brow, I was relieved. It’s incredibly easy to use! I have naturally fuller brows, and I never did much to them, so this gives me the extra help I need.
Estée Lauder is such a classy brand! The mascara looks beautiful and gives your lashes volume/length without clumping. I always get asked if I have fake lashes in when I wear this (which could be because I live in LA…), but I love how dramatic the effects are.
Charlotte Tilbury is the gold standard of makeup, and it’s easy to see why. Her makeup is always used in high-end shoots, and she was the official makeup artist for the VS show this year. Her makeup has that classic Hollywood Glamour appeal, and us girls love to feel beautiful! What I love about this palette are the beautiful color options. My favorites are “The Dolce Vita” (a new bronze and copper toned palette) and “The Bronzed Goddess.” Both pair well with olive/tan skin tones. If you’re looking for a less expensive option, check out “The City Mini Eyeshadow Palette” from Maybelline.
It’s tough to find a good nude lipstick sometimes! I’m always happy with the Dior Addict line, especially the Nude Wave. It’s a beautiful nude that pairs great with a smokey eye or emphasizes your natural lip color!
Fenty Beauty changed the beauty game in 2018. Rhianna started a line that inspired other makeup companies to have more skin color shades. Her Gloss Bomb is always in my bag. The color I love is the original Fenty Glow, which is a shimmering rose/nude. It does look great on every skin tone!
A gorgeous model with fantastic skin started this brand, so I had to check it out. It’s made with organic cold-pressed virgin rosehip seed oil and rose, turmeric, and vanilla bean infused cold-pressed virgin sweet almond oil. I would put this on before bed and wake up with the softest skin.
I met Adele Uddo, the world’s most successful “parts” model at a shoot. Her hands have been in every high-end ad (and her skin was flawless), so when she asked if I wanted to try a sample of her new moisturizer line, the answer was obviously yes! Essential by Adele’s moisturizer has an antioxidant blend that’s good for your skin. Some of the ingredients are Hyaluronic Acid, CoffeeBerry, and Raspberry Leaf! I always bring the travel sized bottle with me on flights.
I’m not a sheet mask snob. I buy the VS sheet mash when they’re on sale for $1 because I still do see the difference, but if I have to be picky, I love florapy sheet masks. They’re a sheet mask and aromatherapy in one! Infused with flowers (did I mention they smell amazing?), these masks help you de-stress and feel refreshed.
