As people are pouring Russian vodka down their drain, Disney suddenly announces that the beloved animated film "Anastasia" is now wiped from the Disney+ streaming platform.

We learned on the blog whatsondisneyplus.com that the 1997 film, which captured adults' hearts as much as it did kids' attention, was kicked off the platform at the beginning of March.

Disney Names "Pre-Existing Contracts" as the Reason

Anyone with a brain is skeptical that this is a response to the Russia invasion of Ukraine over the last week. But Disney gave a very different reason.

"With the start of a brand new month, Disney is often forced to remove some content from Disney+ in the United States due to pre-existing contracts made before Disney+ was created," the blog post read. "Unfortunately, this month, the classic animated film from 20th Century Studios, 'Anastasia', has been removed from Disney+ in the United States."

The curious part of the whole thing is that only Disney+ in the US had to give Anastasia the boot. If you watch Disney+ in any other country, you still have full access to the movie.

"This removal from Disney+ has nothing to do with the current crisis involving Ukraine and Russia," the blog concluded.

Guess we'll have to take their word for it. If you still want to catch Anastasia and relive your Dimitri crush, it will be available on Starz starting March 18.
